India Outraged, as Girl molested in Public in Guwahati

TNI Bureau: People, who prefer to live in dignity with full freedom and peace, were forced to bow their heads in shame, as a 17-year-old minor girl was beaten, molested and stripped in public view in Guwahati.

The incident occurred on Monday night outside a pub in Guwahati, the capital of Assam. The girl had reportedly opposed eve teasing from a young man and entered into a brawl with him. The youth and his friends surrounded her and molested in public view.

The entire incident was caught on camera and has gone viral on YouTube video site on Internet now. The girl pleaded for mercy and screamed for help, but no one came to her rescue. The harassment lasted for around half an hour before police reached the spot and rescued her.

No arrest was made immediately, but the cops arrested three people yesterday and one more this morning following a public outrage. Seven other people are still at large. The police, which identified 11 people from the footage and eye-witness accounts, have launched a massive manhunt to nab them.

The molesters included Amarjyoti Kalita, a contractual employee of Amtron, Assam government’s IT Agency. Two others were identified as Dhananjoy Basfor, a sweeper and Bubul Das a local businessman.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has decided to send a team to Guwahati to probe the incident. The BJP has condemned the incident and demanded stern action against the guilty. Ironically, the Guwahati SSP has blamed the media for blowing the matter out of proportion.
