TNI Bureau: Acting is in the vein and blood of the Kapoor dynasty and junior Kapoor recently proved that. Seems like, Ranbir Kapoor is completely inspired by the late legendary actor and his grand pa Raj Kapoor. Now nobody can stop him to bag awards and he proved his potentiality in “Barfi!” after “Rock Star”.
The overwhelming opening proved that Ranbir is now grown up and matured enough to take up cinema as profession like his predecessors.
The film narrated by talented director Anurag Basu is remarkably devoid of vanity. The story revolves around a deaf-and-dumb guy, who might have grown up watching Chaplin and Raj Kapoor’s films. Like Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Black”, “Barfi!” can be defined as the highest and matured form of cinema. We must say silence speaks many things; it is up to people whether they can read those or simply pass the comment without knowing anything.
The “Black” has another plus point to get more positive reviews that the protagonist was blind. Rani Mukherji in “Black” had impressed audiences through her muted mode of communication. But her language was expressed by her teacher. Here in “Barfi!” Ranbir is the show stealer through his innocence and charming smile. Anurag Basu has experimented something new without taking the help of sign language and a voiceover.
Ranbir is superb. He has brought a Chaplinesque aura to Barfi’s character. The tears are hidden, but he is everywhere, a dominating all the characters.
Priyanka Chopra as the autistic Jhilmil looks great. After doing challenging role in the film like “Fashion”, she was quite criticised for overacting in “Agneepath” and “Anjaana Anjaani”, which is her first film with Ranbir. But this time, she is quite comfortable with Rishi-Neetu Kapoor’s ladla and her flaws are washed away.
Priyanka looks quite simple and proved that she is above the glamour tag. She is seen quite involved in her character, which reminds us Sridevi in “Sadma”. The film is one of the most flawless interpretations in which the disability has lifted the actors to peak.
While Ranbir and Priyanka have proved themselves effortlessly that they are the best actors of their contemporaries, Ileana D’Cruz has made a debut into Hindi film. Even the smaller characters played by Roopa Ganguly, Akaash Khuruna and Haradhan Bandhopadhyay have left an impact on the viewers’ mind.
The film could be described as a modern masterpiece, which should not be missed out. One will simply fall in love with the characters after watching the film. We recommend 4 and half out of 5 stars. Must watch it on weekend.
