Micromax Owners arrested in Bribery Case

The CBI has arrested Rajesh Agarwal and Manish Tuli, co-founders of Micromax mobiles, for allegedly giving Rs 30 lakh bribe to the officials of North Delhi Municipal Corporation to get clearance for the construction of a banquet hall in the city.

Along with Rajesh Agarwal and Manish Tuli, the CBI also arrested two junior officials of the municipal corporation while they were accepting bribe on Wednesday. The officials were receiving the amount from Agarwal  and Tuli on behalf of a Superintendent Engineer, an Executive Engineer and two Junior Engineers.

The CBI carried out searches at 15 locations including the residences and offices of the MCD officials.

There were reports that Rs 40 lakh was recovered from one of the official’s home following the raid. The CBI said that Agarwal and Tuli had struck a deal with the engineers of MCD to get a clearance for construction of a banquet hall in Wazirpur area in exchange of Rs 50 lakh. Later, the bribe amount was brought down from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 30 lakh following the negotiation of the officials.
