India Chapter of the German luxury car major Mercedes-Benz launched the highly awaited A-Class in the compact segment in Mumbai on Thursday. The company launched the A180 CDI at an introductory price of Rs. 21,93,500 (ex-showroom Mumbai) and the A180 Sport, at Rs 22,73,500.
While the petrol version of the A-Class comes in 1.6 litre, 4 cylinder engine, the diesel model sports a 2.2 litre, 4 cylinder engine with streamlined aerodynamic design. The car features 7 airbags for high safety, an electronic stability program to help minimise the loss of control of the car during emergency braking along with acceleration skid control, electric parking brake, brake assist system etc. to suit Indian road condition.
These vehicles are equipped with 7G-DCT automated 7 speed dual clutch transmission, 11-drive assistance systems, direct-injection turbocharger technology, 14.7 cm infotainment display system, abd multifunctional sporty steering wheels with paddle shifts.
In continuation to its product offensive for 2013 the luxury carmaker launched these vehicles those have received a number of awards for its progressive design. It won The Red Dot Design Award 2013, which is one of the world’s most renowned awards, for its unique design and product concept.
Announcing the launch, Mercedes-Benz India managing director and chief executive Eberhard Kern said, “with the new A-Class, Merc now pioneers the compact luxury segment in the country and it reflects the changing customer demand for compact cars. The A-Class is also the most fuel efficient luxury car offering 1000 kms in a full tank of diesel.”
The A-Class can be accounted as a most awaited car with over 90,000 bookings within months of the launch. The A-Class also comes with service packages like ‘star ease’ and ‘star care’. It was also named “Germany’s Most Beautiful Car” at the 2012 AUTO BILD.
