TNI Bureau: Indian woman boxer Mary Kom settled for a bronze medal at the London Olympics, as she lost to Nicola Adams of Britain 6-11 in the semifinals. Nicola turned out to be too strong for the Indian.
In another disappointment, India’s most promising and aggressive boxer Devendro Singh lost to Ireland Paddy Barnes in the quartefinals to crash out of the medal race.
The 20-year-old Devendro lost to Barnes 18-23. The two-point penalty handed over to him in the second round played the spoilsport. That round turned out to be the decisive in the end.
Out of the seven male boxers, none could win a medal for India at the London Olympics. The biggest disappointment was Vijender Singh, as he performed poorly to lost out in the quarterfinals. Sumit Sangwan and Vikas Krishan got a raw deal from the judges.
