Maruti Suzuki eyes Festive Season with Alto 800

TNI Bureau: Maruti Suzuki hopes to launch the stylish and more fuel efficient Alto 800 next month during the festive season. Keeping in view the high petrol price that has damaged the sales of small cars range, the company is planning to boost sales of petrol-powered small cars.

However, with increasing competition and falling sales of petrol-driven Alto models, Maruti has planned to push the sales to sustain its leadership position in the small car segment with the launch of this new Alto 800.

Maruti Alto 800 petrol car will come with a modern and stylish design and more interior space and the same will replace the existing Alto. The new presentation is claimed to offer mileage at about 22.7 km that is 15 per cent higher than the previous one.

Along with some new features including an airbag option and CNG variants the Alto 800 will be available in six colors. First time users are the target buyers of this model according to the company.

Maruti is hopeful enough to have a good time during the festive season referring to the market moves in the past couple of weeks with Onam festival celebrations in Kerala.

Maruti witnessed the drop in sales of the small car Alto to about 90,000 during the first five month period of the current financial year compared with 1.22 lakh units in the same period last year.

For the company, while diesel-run cars continue to maintain a strong demand, a huge slash in sale was witnessed for petrol cars. Maruti Alto has been the largest selling small car in India for about eight years and the company has sold over two million units in the country.
