TNI Bureau: United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government may face a tough time in parliament during the winter session as Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee is planning to bring a no-confidence motion in Lok Sabha. The Congress-led UPA would struggle to save its government as the number has been reduced after Mamata pulled of the coalition over the FDI in retail and cap on susbsidised cooking gas.

Fearing any negative or adverse situation in the upcoming winter session, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has already invited the allies even the top leaders from main opposition BJP to avoid ruckus over various issues like FDI in retail at both the Houses. While Congress is confident that the party’s strength will be proved in Parliament, Mamata’s threat could not be ignored at all.

Now, the Congress is approaching the Samajwadi Party and BSP believing that the parties would save the government in the worst case. Mamata has sought the support of all the opposition parties including her close rival Left. The BJP is silent over the issue and will decide on Tuesday. It was reported that BJP has been approached by Mamata for support to her motion against the government.

UPA has 252 members including 204 from Congress, 18 DMK, 9 NCP, % RLD, 3 NC, 9 others and 4 Independent MPs. 10 others, who are formally supporting UPA are IUML – 2, AIMM – 1, AIUDF – 1, BPF – 1, KERALA CONG – 1, SDF – 1, VCK – 1, SWP – 1, and BVA – 1. UPA is having outside support from BSP – 21, SP – 22, RJD – 4 and JDS – 3.

However, Mamata needs support of at least 50 MPs to bring a no-confidence motion against the government.
