The Delhi Police on Monday arrested six activists of the Students Federation of India (SFI), including the General Secretary Ritabrata Bandopadhyay of the organisation, for heckling West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and state Finance Minister Amit Mitra.
The SFI is the students’ wing of the CPI-M. The arrested activists will be taken to the court later today.
Mamata and Amit Mitra were heckled outside the Planning Commission office in Delhi on April 10. Even Mitra’s kurta was torn. Following the incident Mamata had to cancel her meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Later, SFI had apologised to Mamata and Mitra for the incident.
The arrest came hours after the Trinamool Congress threatened not to allow Parliament to function as no arrest had been made in the case.
