TNI Bureau: As directed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the North Odisha University in Baripada, has been renamed as Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanj Deo University with effect from 23 December 2020.
A notification in this regard, has been issued by the Department of Higher Education. Earlier, CM Naveen Patnaik had approved the resolution of Mayurbhanj District BJD which recommended the renaming of North Odisha University on Maharaja’s name to mark his 150th Birth Anniversary year.
It was also decided to develop the University Library. The renovation of Sriram Chandra Pathagar (Jubille Library) will be undertaken by the Odisha Government in the memory of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo.
Late Maharaja Sri Ramchandra Bhanj Deo had made immense contribution to the growth and development of erstwhile Mayurbhanj State. He also made significant contribution to the efforts making Odisha a separate state although he died much before that dream became a reality.
During his tenure, primary schools saw manifold rise in the Mayurbhanj State. He always emphasised on education, agriculture, cultural growth and language. His 150th Birth Anniversary was observed on 17 December 2020.
