Madras HC defers ‘Vishwaroopam’ Ban Hearing

TNI Bureau: Another setback to Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan as the Madras High Court deferred the decision on the release of his latest film ‘Vishwaroopam’ till tomorrow in Tamil Nadu. The court asked the actor-filmmaker to find all the possibilities to reach an amicable settlement with the government, which banned the film for two weeks following the allegations by some Muslim orgnaisations.

The court observed that the matter is very sensitive. The judge suggested the actor to meet the government officials and find the solution. Justice K Venkataraman had watched the film along with Tamil Nadu advocate general A Navaneethakri-shnan and representatives of Kamal Haasan and Muslim organisations on Saturday to review whether the Muslim community has been portrayed in a poor light as alleged by the Muslim groups.

However, the judge could not arrive at a final decision today.

Meanwhile, Tamil superstar Rajinikanth appealed to the Muslim groups to allow the film to be released in the state. Despite massive protests across Tamil Nadu, the film was screened in Karnataka, Kerala and Telugu version was released in Andhra Pradesh. However, the film was banned in Hyderabad after the morning show on Muslim festival on Friday.

Even the film was pulled out of the theatres in Malaysia a day after its release because of the allegations by the Muslim groups. Sri Lanka also made a delay in the release of the film.

Support poured in favour of Kamal Haasan from former chief minister M Karunanidhi. He also appealed to the Muslim community to resolve the issue through talks with the actor.
