Lalu returns, as Nitish’s JD(U) loses Maharajganj

Date:

It was a big blow for Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) government in Bihar as the party failed to win the Maharajganj by-election. It raised the hope of RJD revival when its candidate Prabhunath Singh beat JD(U)’s PK Shahi in the by-poll.

The counting of votes for Maharajganj Lok Sabha constituency was held today. RJD’s Prabhunath Singh defeated Nitish’s candidate Shahi by a huge 1.36 lakh votes.

The by-poll held on Sunday was very crucial for Nitish ahead of the general elections scheduled for 2014. In fact, the poll was Nitish vs Lalu Prasad Yadav. The result is a setback for Bihar CM. It also raises question whether whether the public will accept the JD(U)-BJP alliance in future!
