TNI Bureau: The Konark Festival organised by the Department of Tourism, Government of Odisha enters in to the 3rd day while the enthusiastic connoisseurs throng to witness the captivating nuances, elegant movements decked out in enchanting music and rhythm of the classical dances from across the country along with the beautiful sand sculptures at the Chandrabhaga Beach, Konark.
The 3rd day programme started with customary offerings to Sun God followed by Thei Ghara Nata unlike Batu or Sthayee Nrutya depicting the multi dimensional portrayal of the creative growth process of Odissi dance set to Rag Chakrakeli and Taal Triputta intercepted by Taal Khemta. Another innovative item showcasing the movements of animals and birds besides human being was Gati Sammi Krutta Pattadeep Pallavi set of Raag Pattadeep and Taal Ektali. The concluding part was a dance drama Sthitaprajna exhibiting the portrayal of virtuous victory of the human being over the six eternal enemies within him i.e. misery, anger, greed desire, insensibility, stimulation jealousy. While defeating all the six vices the Sthitaprajna remains inflexible, steady, stable, stubborn and ultimately emerges victorious by his wisdom and conscience proving himself as an ideal human being. The performance of artistes of Sankalp, New Delhi led by noted Odissi danseuse enthralled the audience.
Eminent Bharat Natyam danseuse, exponent and choreggrapher. Mallika Sarabhai’s dance company Darpana Academy of performing Arts of Ahemdabad presented a stunning performance on the spiritual and devotional music which brought everyone the joie de vivre. The ‘SAMPRADAYAM’ the choreography as is named showcases a rare blend of aesthetics and spirituality. The dancers with their impeccable sync with slowly rising tempo exuded extraordinary sense of laya till it reached the crescendo with Dhoon. The spiritual import emanated in their Abhinaya was splendid which received tremendous applause and appreciation from the audience. Like previous days the performances of the dancers elegantly reflected on the canvas by Shri Baladev Maharatha which indeed was a visual treat. The International Sand Art Fest on Chandrabhaga Beach also attracted a large number of visitors who enjoyed the sea, surf and sand. The evening’s cultural programme was anchored by Smt. Sadhana Srivastav and Dr. Mrutyunjay Rath.
