According to officials, 20 people were injured in the collapse and are undergoing treatment at SSKM Hospital. The deceased include workers from West Bengal and Bihar.

Rescue operations continued on Thursday, with personnel from the Indian Army, NDRF and other agencies searching through the debris amid fears that more people could still be trapped.

The five arrested include the site supervisor, iron structure fabricator, land lessee, labour supplier-cum-contractor and a broker allegedly involved in obtaining the Kolkata Municipal Corporation’s sanction plan.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the collapse, including whether proper approvals were obtained and safety norms were followed during construction.

Reacting to the incident, BJP MP Rahul Sinha said those responsible for the tragedy would face strict action. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is expected to make a detailed statement on the matter in the West Bengal Assembly.
