Captain Virat Kohli scored his 15th ODI hundred, as India defeated Zimbabwe in the first ODI to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. Debutant Ambati Rayudu made his presence felt with an unbeaten fifty, while Amit Mishra took three wickets in his comeback game.
India won the toss and elected to field first. Zimbabwe posted 228/7 in 50 overs. Sikandar Raza was the top scorer with 82. Sibanda (34) and Chigumbura (43*) were the other top scorers. Amit Mishra took 3/43.
Chasing a victory target of 229, India lost Rohit (20) and Dhawan (17) early. But, Virat Kohli (115*) and Rayudu (63*) added 159 runs for the third wicket to put the team to the course of victory. India reached 230/4 in 44.5 overs. For Zimbabwe, Utseya took two wickets. Virat Kohli was declared ‘Man of the Match’.
