K Srikanth wins Thailand Open Grand Prix

India’s new Badminton sensation K Srikanth made history, as he became the first India man to win a major badminton title outside India since 2001 with a victory at Thailand Open Grand Prix. Srikanth beat top seed Boonsak Ponsana 21-16, 21-12 in 34 minutes in the final.

India’s No. 1 player P Kashyap had won a Grand Prix title. But, that victory came in Lucknow in India. Earlier in 2001, Pullela Gopichand had won the All England Championship. Incidentally, he is the current Coach of the Indian Badminton team now.

K Srikanth was donpato in Guntur. He trains at Gopichand’s Badminton Academy in Hyderabad. He is ranked 61 in the world.
