TNI Bureau: While the entire country is outraged over the gangrape of the brave heart girl and mourned the death of the victim, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa demanded strong punishment including death penalty and chemical castration for the rapists. She announced a series of measures to strengthen the laws and control the sexual crimes against women in the state
Jayalalithaa is the first chief minister to take strong measures ensuring the safety for women. She unveiled a 13-point action plan that will be executed very soon in the state. She said that measures will be taken to set up Fast Track Mahila Courts in each district of the state to expedite the speedy trial. She said that the hearing on the sexual crime cases should not be delayed and report on pending sexual abuse cases will be submitted in 15 days.
She said that Goonda Act in Tamil Nadu will be amended to punish the rapists. The women advocates will be appointed as government’s pleaders.
“Daily hearing shall be conducted in all such sexual abuse cases to finish trial fast… the government counsel in such cases will all be women,” the chief minister said. Incidents of sexual assault will be treated as a grave crime and top police officials would probe them, she added.
She said that exclusive helpline for women will be launched. The Centre may take time to check sexual assault crimes in Delhi, but Jaya came forward to provide safety for women in her state and justice for the victims.
