TNI Bureau: After facing criticism from film industry and intellectuals over the ban on Kamal Haasan’s ‘Vishwaroopam’ in the state, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa defended her government’s decision justifying the ban of the film.
She said that the tough decision was taken to maintain the law and order situation and to provide police protection to all 524 theatres where the film was supposed to be released.
“This film was proposed to be released in 524 theatres in Tamil Nadu, various Muslim organisations submitted a memorandum to the government, they had demanded the ban on the movie. These Muslim organisations also announced various demonstrations, there was every apprehension that this could turn violent,” Jayalalithaa said.
No partiality has been done and there was no personal grudges against Kamal Haasan. “I have nothing against Karunanidhi’s family releasing movies then why against Kamal Hasaan”, asked Jaya.
Talking on Kamal Haasan’s statement that he has his property at stake in this movie, she said that the actor is old enough to make a responsible attempt.
Jaya denied that the decision has been taken under pressure. She said that the Muslim groups have not met her regarding the matter and she did not know what the movie was about.
Talking strongly against her rival Karunanidhi’s statement, she said that she will take legal view against him and media over the charges they have made against her.
Jaya broke her silence over the issue after Haasan said this morning that he doesn’t want to move the Supreme Court. He said that he will talk with the Muslim groups and ready to modify the film. He hoped that the things may be settled with the government.
On Wednesday, Kamal Haasan was disappointed after the Madras High Court re-imposed the ban order on his latest film. The final hearing of the case is slated for February 6.
