IPL Betting: Gurunath Meiyappan Chargsheeted

Even though BCCI President N Srinivasan has put up a volt face and vowed to contest the upcoming polls later this month, the Mumbai Crime Branch has chargesheeted his son-in-law and former CSK owner Gurunath Meiyappan and 45 others in connection with the IPL betting ad spot-fixing case.

Apart from Gurunath, Bollywood actor Vindoo Dara Singh and Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf have been named in the chargesheet. Out of 46 accused, 24 are still wanted, as they are living either in Pakistan, Dubai or absconding. They include 15 Pakistan-based and 2 Dubai-based bookies.

The chargesheet includes statements of 205 witnesses, 61 panchnamas, 12 voice samples, CCTV footges etc. The crime branch teams visited Jaipur, Sujangarh and Nokha in Rajasthan, Delhi, Bhatinda, Goa, Chennai and Pune during the course of the investigations.

The Crime Branch seized 150 cellphones, 5 laptops, 3 iPads, 40 SIM cards and bank accounts worth Rs 1.29 crore.
