India win Bronze at Junior Women Hockey World Cup

Indian girls made history, as they won the first-ever medal for the country at the Junior Women Hockey World Cup. India won a bronze medal by beating England 3-2 on penalties.

The 18-year-old Rani scored the lone goal in the regulation time and then struck twice in the penalties to seal the victory for the team. In the penalties, only 5 out of 14 hits taken by both teams, were successful.

Rani scored the first goal for India in the 13th minute. Anna Toman found the equaliser in the 55th minute. The score was 1-1 after 70 minutes. In the penalties, only Emily Defroant scored twice for England, while Rani scored two goals for India. Naveet scored one.

India had lost to the Netherlands 3-0 in the semifinals. The latter won the tournament with a 4-2 victory over Argentina on the penalties. The Hocke India has announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh each for the players of the bronze medal winning team.
