India to deploy 50,000 More Troops on China Border

In a desperate bid to counter the offensive by Chinese forces on the border, India has decided to deploy a special crop of 50,000 additional troops to be deployed at the cost of Rs 65,000 crore.

The Cabinet Committee on Security headed by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh cleared the proposal in its meeting yesterday. The new Corps’ headquarters will be at Panagarh in West Bengal. Two other divisions will function in Bihar and Assam. Other units will be stationed at Ladakh in Jammu & Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh.

The Indian Army had sent this proposal in 2010, but the government had failed to take any action on that. The recent Chinese incursions have left no other option for the government but to go ahead with the plan.
