India test-fires Agni-V Ballistic Missile

In a massive response to China’s bullying tactics at the LAC, India has today test-fired its Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM), Agni-V, which can hit Shanghai and Northern-most Chinese city – Habin City. This is the second time India has test-fired this nuclear-capable missile.

The Agni-V was test-fired from Wheeler Island at Chandipur-on-Sea. It is about 17 meters long and weighs 50 tonnes. The missile can carry a 1.5-tonne warhead with a range of 5,000 km or 3,100 miles. Besides China, it can also hit parts of Europe..

The first test of Agni-5 was carried out in April 2012, while its development began way back in 1983. A few more tests will be conducted before it is finally inducted and deployed in 2017.
