India showcases Military, Cultural Might on 64th Republic Day

TNI Bureau: India celebrated its 64th Republic Day showcasing its military strength and rich cultural heritage on the 8-km stretch from Rajpath to Red Fort. The parade began after the President of India Pranab Mukherjee delivered speech addressing the dignitaries, foreign delegates and crowd.

The audience were watching country’s military prowess sitting on both sides of the Rajpath without caring for the chilled winter. They were cheering loudly when the parade began portraying the rich and diverse culture of the country.

The march-past was being watched by the Chief Guest, Bhutan king Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Defence Minister AK Antony, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and top political and military brass.

The Indian Air Force displays latest acquisitions in tableaux. Bhutan King was impressed to see the ballistic Agni-V missile, which was carried on a road mobile launcher, during the parade by the Defence Research and Development Organisation. The Gallantry award winners also take part in parade. Param Vir Chakra, Ashok Chakra winners in contingent.

India showcased its rich cultural heritage at the 64th Republic DAy on Saturday. While Rajasthan, Bihar tableaux displayed indigenous handicraft, Odisha displayed its religious value with the phrase of “Hari Bol”, which shows that Lord Jagannath culture is its heritage.

Kerala tableau displayed houseboats, Railway Ministry tableau displayed double decker AC train and Delhi tableau displays capital as India’s cultural hub. A total of 14 state tableaux included at the parade.

Minutes before the parade began, PM Dr Singh, AK Antony, and chiefs of Army, Navy and Air Force laid wreaths at ‘Amar Jawan Jyoti’ remembering the sacrifices of the braves soldiers of the country.
