1) The BSE Sensex breached the 26,000 mark for the first time ahead of the Budget session of the Parliament. The market is very optimistic about Union Budget 2014-15, which will be presented by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on July 10.

2) Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu hosted an all-party meeting ahead of the Budget Session of the Parliament.

3) Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh has begun his seven-day hunger strike in Guna. He is protesting against the Madhya Pradesh government for not providing relief to natural-calamity hit farmers.

4) According to C Rangarajan Panel report, 363 million people, or 29.5% of India’s 1.2 billion population, lived in poverty in 2011-12. The panel considered people living on less than Rs. 32 a day in rural areas and Rs. 47 a day in urban areas as poor.
