TNI Bureau: India has dropped two spots to 131 among 189 countries on the Human Development Index (HDI), according to the 2020 Human Development Index, published by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Wednesday.
Norway topped the index, followed by Ireland, Switzerland, Hong Kong and Iceland.
India’s gross national income per capita fell to $ 6,681 in 2019 from $6,829 in 2018. While life expectancy of Indians at birth in 2019 was 69.7 years.
According to the report, India figured in the bottom third for most development indicators, including quality of health, education, an adverse sex ratio and high percentage of people in vulnerable employment.
Human Development Index is the measure of a nation’s health, education, and standards of living.
