In the dead rubber that was not significant from the Champions Trophy semifinals point of view, India defeated Pakistan by 6 wickets to break the jinx and score register the first-ever win over the arch-rival in the tournament history.
India are the only unbeaten team in ICC Champions Trophy 2013 so far. They had earlier beaten South Africa and West Indies. In the warm-up games too, India had beaten Sri Lanka and Australia.
Earlier, India won the toss and elected to field first. Pakistan were 70/3 in the 20th over when rain stopped play. The match was reduced to 40 overs a side after resumption. Pakistan bowled out for 165 in 39.4 overs.
India had to chase down 167 as per the D/L method. Later, the target was revised to 157 in 36 overs and finally 102 in 22 overs due to the intervention of rain. Riding high on Shikhar Dhawan’s 48 off 41 balls and Kohli’s 22*, India reached 102/2 in 19.1 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was declared ‘Man of the Match’ for his superb bowling.
MS Dhoni became India’s most successful ODI captain against Pakistan with 10th win in 17 matches. Mohammad Azharuddin had won 9 in 25 matches.
