TNI Bureau: Indian subsidiary of Hyundai Motors Company, Car maker Hyundai Motor India Ltd launched its new sedan Elantra on Sunday. The car is available at an introductory price opening from Rs. 12.5 lakh.
While the petrol version of the new Elantra is powered by a 1.8 litre engine, the diesel option has an engine capacity of 1.6 litres. The petrol variant is available at a price between Rs 12.51 and 14.74 lakh and the diesel version ranges from Rs 12.91 to 15.85 lakh.
The new Sedan Elantra, which is based on the Korean company’s new fluidic design philosophy, has been introduced to revive the company’s presence in the executive car segment in the domestic market.
“The new Elantra was launched in the US in 2011 and it has received overwhelming response worldwide. We are confident that in India also this will be a success,” Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) Managing Director and CEO BS Seo told in New Delhi during the launch. “Although the market conditions in India are currently challenging, it is a temporary situation and the company believes in the long term potential of the market,” he added.
As per the company, the executive sedan market size is 2,800 units a month and it has invested Rs 200 crore at its Chennai plant to produce the sedan. Hyundai also revealed that it has received 750 pre-bookings for the Elantra.
