TNI Bureau: Google launched its much-awaited voice-based turn-by-turn navigation service in India. The application allows users to find local destinations by typing or speaking an address or business name.
Though the app was earlier available on Android phones and tablets in India, officially the service was not supported. Also the voice instruction support is the latest feature added.
The travelers can take the advantage of the apps while driving or walking to get directions of a place through turn-by-turn voice instructions. Also, more layers can be either added or removed as per the necessity of the user. It offers both basic and detailed instructions.
Nokia provides the feature on its high-end phones for free in India. However, few other companies provide the service through paid apps. Though, the service provided by either Nokia Maps or Google Navigation have been seen to deliver the most accurate result.
Google also offers the basic map services along with the current navigation feature, which is a kind of dynamic directory of notable places around a user.
Again, the Transit feature of Google is also seen to be a useful feature. It uses the data supplied by public transport authorities and provides information regarding bus or train boarding time and other details covered by public transport.
When it comes to tussle between the two techno giants, Apple and Google, in India Google is expected to reign for its turn-by-turn navigation feature in the Android devices, as Apple recently decided to not to use Google Maps in its device. But fact is that it is really a much difficult and time taking task to build an efficient map service as routes are not that much organized over here, for which Google and Nokia spent years to perfect their map service.
