Good Nutrition boosts Sperm Quality in Older Men

TNI Bureau: A recent study suggested that the consumption of balanced food, rich in high levels of micronutrients helps men to have better sperm quality in their old age.

However, the study found that young men, who had higher levels of nutrients in their food, had no changes in their sperm quality.

The researchers conducted the experiment on 80 healthy male volunteers between the ages of 22 and 80. They found that men over 44 years of age who had higher levels of vitamin intake had lower levels of DNA damage in their sperm compared to men who were under 44 had low levels of vitamin intake.

The respondents were quizzed about their lifestyle and their daily nutrient intake was classified into three categories viz, low, medium or high. All the participants were also underwent sperm DNA quality assessment.

Andy Wyrobek of Berkeley Lab’s Life Sciences Division of the research team intimated that consuming more micronutrients such as vitamin C, E and zinc helps to keep the DNA intact.

The study reveals that – Nutrients are the factors to protect the DNA from oxidative damage.
