Gangrape in Rayagada, Victim attempts Suicide

TNI Bureau: Another gangrape case emerged in Odisha, this time in tribal Rayagada district. A minor girl, who was subjected to the heinous crime, had attempted suicide by setting herself on fire. She is still in a critical condition.

The victim, whose name was kept secret, hails from Anjipetta area in Rayagada town. She is just 16-year-old. She had suffered 80 per cent burn injuries after attempting suicide.

When she regained sense after three days, she narrated her shocking saga. She was returning home at 8 PM on January 2 after completing her work at a Xerox Shop. A few people had dragged her to a lonely place near the Truck Union office and raped her. They also fractured her hand. Out of agony and pain, she had decided to end her life and set herself on fire.

The victim has named at least two people, but said she did not know the others. The police is investigating the matter.
