Fukrey – A Complete Review

‘Fukrey’ is a ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ type movie with essence of ‘Delhi Belly’ and ‘Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’. The film is co-produced by the director of Dil Chahta Hai, Farhan Akhtar. Unlike normal reviews, the motive of introducing the co-producer in the beginning of the review is necessary because, that aspect is the deciding factor of ‘Fukrey’. I mean, though the film has been directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, it bears the signature style of Akhtar films, with a bend of Delhite aspect and that is the winning factor.

Plot – Hunny (Pulkit Samrat) and Dileep aka Chucha (Varun Sharma) are two good-for-nothing guys, commonly called ‘Fukrey’ in Delhi. Chucha dreams about weird things which Hunny decodes and ultimately they always end up predicting the winning lottery number. Now another two, Lali and Zafar enters to the scene. They want to join a college, not for higher study but for ‘Chhokri’. But in this age of huge-fees trend in colleges, they need a big amount of money to materialize their dream. And like many other films, they take on a short-cut for thee. The short-cut is Bholi Punjaban (Richa Chadda) and she is the new age female gangster. Importantly, you mess with her and she will screw you good.

Hunny, Choocha, Lali and Zafar convince Bholi to invest in their foolproof plan. However, things go wrong when the foursome get into trouble and are bullied by Bholi. And within this happening, a series of comedy takes place when this heap group come together – dragging Neetu (Vishakha Singh), Zafar’s ex-girlfriend and Lali’s tuition teacher and Priya (Priya Anand), Hunny’s love-interest, along.

Review – The first-half of the film is slow paced but the comic punches every now and then keep you thoroughly entertained. When it comes to acting, the entire cast offers a fresh performance. While the male leads are bang on, the female actors don’t have much to do. Pulkit Samrat and Varun Sharma make for a thoroughly entertaining watch and Manjot Singh adds the spice to this recipe. Ali Fazal infuses life into his character and performs. Richa Chadda, the ‘Gundi’ is the actress to steal the show as Bholi Punjaban.

Verdict – Go and watch the film for its comedy, Bholi Punjaban and overall performance by the four. If you are a fan of the Delhi and North Indian style of filming that has been witnessed in many films these days, it will be a bonus for you.
