Former Italian PM Berlusconi sentenced in Tax Fraud

TNI Bureau: In a huge setback for Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, he was sentenced to one year in prison following a six-year tax fraud trial on Friday. The court also barred him from holding any public office for three years.

Berlusconi was convicted of tax fraud over the purchase of broadcasting rights for his Mediaset television company. Initially, the court awarded him four years’ jail, but the sentence was reduced to one year under an amnesty law.

According to latest report, the 76-year-old Berlusconi will appeal his sentence by November 10.
