Fire at Lokayukta Record Room Raises Serious Concerns

Date:

TNI Bureau: A fire breaking out inside the Lokayukta Record Room at Toshali Bhavan in Bhubaneswar is not a routine incident; it’s a matter of serious public concern. When records linked to anti-corruption investigations go up in flames, questions inevitably follow.

Was it a mere electrical short circuit, as such incidents are often conveniently described? Or was it a case of negligence of the highest order? More importantly, were any sensitive files damaged or destroyed? The public deserves clear, transparent answers, not vague assurances.

The Lokayukta is meant to be a watchdog against corruption. If its own records are vulnerable to fire, what does that say about institutional safeguards? The credibility of the system rests on the integrity and security of its documentation. Ironically, the Lokaykuta Chairperson Post in Odisha has been lying vacant in Odisha since March 2024 and there has been no members since August 2024.

This incident demands an independent probe, a time-bound report, and complete disclosure. Anything less will only fuel suspicion. In matters involving accountability, even a spark can ignite doubts far bigger than the fire itself.
