FDI in Retail: After Allies, PM invites BJP for Dinner

TNI Bureau: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has invited top BJP leadership for dinner ahead of the winter session of Parliament, which may witness the ruckus over UPA’s decision on FDI in retail. The upcoming session may turn stormy as the main opposition BJP has been opposing the decision. However, the PM is sparing no chance to reach out to the opposition after hosting dinners for UPA allies.

Leaders of Opposition Sushma Swaraj, her Rajya Sabha counterpart Arun Jaitley and senior party leader LK Advani are the leaders, who have been invited to the PM’s Race Course Road residence for dinner.

The PM wants smooth functioning of the parliament during the upcoming session after facing a lot of heats from the opposition parties and Left. Last session was paralysed over several issues like FDI in multi-brand retail and fuel price hike. Dr Singh has thrown the party for the BJP seeking their cooperation to pass the Bill.

Meanwhile, the Left parties have already sent notices for a debate on the issue in the parliament seeking voting. The government is under pressure after the Trinamool Congress withdrew its support to Congress demanding roll back the decision that allows 51% FDI in retail. The DMK has not made its stand clear on the issue.

The BJP is may take up the issues like price rise, Robert Vadra-DLF nexus, LPG cap and coal scam in the upcoming session.
