The Evergreen philanthropist Bollywood Actor Dilip Kumar turns 98 today. For over 50 years, Actor Dilip Kumar worked in the Indian Film Industry and entertained his fans.
Dilip Kumar was born in a Muslim Family in Peshawar. His name in the early years of his life was Mohammad Yusuf Khan. Later, he changed his name to Dilip Kumar just before his first film ‘Jwar Bhata’ in 1944 at the request of the owner of Bombay Talkies, Devika Rani. His first film Jwar Bhata did not get him much recognition and fame. He continued his career in the film industry and in the year 1947, Dilip Kumar gave his first Box Office hit ‘Jugnu’ co-starring Noor Jehan. After Jugnu, he worked in films like ‘Shaheed’ and ‘Mela’.
In 1949, his film ‘Andaz’ got released alongside Raj Kapoor and Nargis. It was a super hit film and rose him to fame in the industry. Throughout his dreamy career, Dilip Kumar has played the lead in around 65 films. He has been an amazing actor and heartthrob of the Entertainment Industry for years. The veteran actor is famous for his evergreen roles, dialogues, and acting. Dilip Kumar played different roles in films like Babul, Daag, Hulchul, Insaniyat, Devdas, and Aan.
Dilip has an enormous fan base and people of all generations love the actor and his movies. Even the younger generations appreciate his work and movies. The actor has given super hit films to the Industry. His film ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ in 1960 was the highest-grossing film for almost 11 years. People still relish the actor for his roles in Ram Aur Shyam, Kranti, Vidhaata, Shakti, Ganga Jamuna, Dil Diya Dard Liya and Saudagar.
His last film Qila released in 1998. He was set to appear in more films later but unfortunately, nothing worked out and Qila became his last Bollywood Film. Later, the actor turned his career towards Politics and served as a Member of the Indian Parliament for 6 years. Dilip Kumar has also been a philanthropist and participated in various social initiatives and charities.
Every year on his birthday, his wife Saira Banu organize lavish birthday parties but this year things are different. Kumar lost his two younger brothers to the Coronavirus Disease. So, the family decided to keep it simple without any big celebrations.
