TNI Bureau: Despite a good show against Pakistan and South Africa, Team India crashed out of the ICC Twenty20 World Cup. Pakistan, Australia, Sri Lanka and West Indies have qualified for the semifinals. Pakistan will take on Sri Lanka in the semis, Australia will take on West Indies in the other one.
In a thrilling encounter last night, India defeated South Africa by one run. India had scored 152/6 in 20 overs, thanks to Raina (45), Rohit (25), Yuvraj (21) and Dhoni (23*). Morne Morkel and Robin Peterson took two wickets each.
Chasing a victory target of 153, South Africa bowled out for 151 in 19.5 overs and lost the match by one run. Faf du Plessis scored 65 off 38 balls. Zaheer and Balaji took three wickets each, while Yuvraj Singh took two wickets. Yuvraj Singh was declared ‘Man of the Match’.
Although Australia, Pakistan and India got 4 points each in Super Eights, Australia and Pakistan qualified for the semis on the basis of better net run rate.
