TNI Bureau: The number of people infected with dengue in Odisha has climbed to 671 with 5 deaths this year. The death toll rose to 5 in the state after two more casualties Biswajit Mohanty (27) and a CRPF jawan were reported in the state capital Bhubaneswar.
Maximum cases of Dengue were found in Balasore district. The Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) identified the strain of dengue virus in Balasore district on Tuesday as mix of Genotype 1 and Genotype 2. Director of RMRC reportedly explained that out of the two types, Genotype 2 virus causes more severe form of the disease.
As per version of the experts, dengue virus is of four genotypes: Type 1, 2, 3 and 4. However, in case of Odisha, besides the type 1 and type 2, while in one case a patient was also found with type 3 genotype virus of Dengue, there is no instance of Genotype 4 virus in the state so far.
The constant hot and humid climate after the rainy season has been described as a favorable atmosphere for the Dengue virus to breed in the state. The infective period may continue till end of October, experts also opine.
Dengue in the state has been found to be prevalent not only among the poor or unprivileged class rather member from all purview have become victim of the virus. Deputy Commissioner of Commercial Tax in Rourkela Sudhanshu Nanda, who received treatment for dengue at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, died on Monday night. However, Government authorities attributed the death to multiple other complications and did not accept it as a dengue death.
As per latest report, 37 patients were added to have infected with Dengue in Balasore district followed by 15 in Ganjam.
Despite the Health Department’s claim of taking proper care to nab the disease, still the graph of infection and casualty out of Dengue is moving in a constant ascending rate.
