Delhi Gangrape Verdict deferred till Friday

Although the arguments on the sentencing of four convicts in Delhi Gangrape case, ended today, the fast-track court in Saket reserved its order till Friday. The prosecution has demanded death sentence for the convicts while the defence urged the court to show leniency, citing the “young age” of the victims.

As the court has already observed that the internal injuries inflicted on the victim, was intended to kill her, there is a bleak chance that any leniency will be shown towards the convicts. Even the victim’s family have demanded death sentence for these four, who made their daughter bleed and die with a lot of pain and agony.

The defence tried to convince the court that the crime happened at the spur of the moment and was not pre-meditated. The defence lawyer requested the court to give them one last chance to reform.

On the other hand, the prosecution cited the judgement in the 1990 Dhananjoy Chatterjee case in which he was sentenced to death for the rape and murder of the 14-year-old girl in 1990 at her home in Bhowanipur in West Bengal.
