TNI Bureau: The anti-rape protests at India Gate and Rashtrapati Bhawan turned violent with the clashes between the protesters and police. Thousands of students, women and activists are demanding justice for the 23-year-old gangrape victim, who is still critical at the Safdarjung Hospital.
The police resorted to lathicharge again, fired tear gas shells on the protesters after they tried to break the barricades. They were shouting slogans against lax security that caused the horrific incident on Sunday night. Thirteen protesters were injured, of which nine were taken to RML hospital and four to LNJP hospital. Most of the protesters have suffered minor head injuries.
Thousands of protesters including women and students staged demonstration outside Rashtrapati Bhavan once again today. The demonstration was also seen at Rajpath. Many protesters questioned as to where was Congress’s ‘youth leader’ Rahul Gandhi now. Some of the slogans raised at India Gate also said, “Don’t teach your daughters what to wear, teach your sons how to behave.” They have been protesting against the growing incident of rape cases in Delhi. Even students joined the protests with a lot of questions in their minds like are they safe in this fast growing country?
In the morning, the police had resorted to lathicharge on the protesters. The Home Ministry said that the protesters should not indulge into any violence. However, the protest is intensifying, and nobody is in the mood to listen to the police. The anger seems natural as the victim is battling for her life at the hospital, and it indicates, how safe they are in the city.
