TNI Bureau: The Delhi Daredevils failed to break the semifinal jinx, as they lost to Highveld Lions by 22 runs in the first semifinal of the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) in Durban. With this, Indian IPL teams’ disastrous campaign in the CLT20 came to an end.
Delhi Daredevils won the toss and elected to field first. Lions posted 139/5 in 20 overs. Gulam Bodi (50), Alviro Petersen (24) and Neil McKenzie (46) were the top scorers. For Delhi, Umesh Yadav took two wickets.
Chasing a victory target of 140, Daredevils started on a disastrous note, as Sehwag was out for a duck off the first ball he faced. Kevin Pietersen (50) and David Warner (20) put up some resistance. However, none other batsman managed to reach the double digit score. Delhi Daredevils finished at 117/9 in 20 overs.
For Lions, Dirk Nannes, Chris Morris and Aaron Phangiso took two wickets each. Neil McKenzie was declared ‘Man of the Match’.
