CSK CEO Gurunath Meiyappan Arrested

Even as the stage is set for the grand finale of the IPL 6, Chennai Super Kings CEO Gurunath Meiyappan was arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch after a three-hour long grilling at their office. Meiyappan, who came to Mumbai via a chartered plane, was taken to the Crime Branch office and questioned there.

Meiyappan, who is said to be close to actor Vindoo Dara Singh, reportedly did not cooperate in the questioning, leading to his arrest. He was allegedly involved in betting and spot-fixing. He is the son-in-law of BCCI President N Srinivasan and owns stakes in the latter’s company India Cements. Gurunath will be produced in the court today.

There is a mounting pressure on Srinivasan to step down following Meiyappan’s arrest. Amidst reports of three CSK players’ involvement in the spot-fixing scandal, there is a pressure on the BCCI to sack Chennai Super Kings from the IPL even though the team is gearing up to play the final on Sunday.
