According to the White Paper 2012 tabled in Odisha Assembly on Friday, the percentage of crime in last year is higher in the state. As many as 83,960 criminal cases were registered in 2012, more than 14% increase than previous year 2011.
The year 2012 has recorded more number of thefts, dacoity, murder, plunder cases apart from violence against women. While the state recorded 1.8 per cent plunder cases, 13.3 per cent more theft cases have been registered in 2012.
The paper said that less number of the case related to Maoist violence was reported in six rebel-hit districts such as Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj and Sambalpur last year. Around 104 cases were registered in connection with the killing of 19 security personnel and 25 civilians. The security forces killed 10 and 167 Maoists during combing operation last year.
