Congress vs Mamata over Hamid Ansari

TNI Bureau: As the Presidential poll is coming nearer, the race for the post of vice president equally has importance. A fresh standoff between the UPA and its key ally Trinamol Congress may bring positive results for the government.

While the UPA has announced Vice President Hamid Ansari to continue the post for next five years, Mamata Banerjee-led TMC is opposing the UPA decision.

This time, Mamata wanted her candidate to be nominated for the Vice-President. However, the UPA had other plans and agreed to give a second term to Dr. Ansari.

Mamata, who is upset with Congress for making former finance minister Pranab Mukherjee as the UPA nominee for the upcoming presidential poll, appears in no mood to back the UPA nominee for the post of Vice President.

Mamata is also likely to skip the UPA dinner on July 18. Sources said that the TMC is going to object the second term for Ansari as it wants Gopal Krishna Gandhi or Krishna Bose for the Vice Presidential post.
