Coalgate: FIR filed against Five Companies

TNI Bureau: While the fate of the 60 coal blocks is in suspense, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed FIRs against five companies in connection with the coal block allocation that caused a huge loss of Rs 1.86 lakh crore to the country.

The cases have been registered under cheating and criminal conspiracy against companies that include Vinni Iron and Steel, Nav Bharat Steel, JLD Yavatmal, JAS Infrastructure and Power and AMR Iron and Steel, the owner of the companies and some unknown officials of the Coal Ministry and state governments.

The officials, who were involved in the allocation of coal blocks during 2006-09, are under scanner.

The investigative agency is also carrying out the raids across the country in the cities including Kolkata, Patna, Hyderabad, Dhanbad, Nagpur, Mumbai and Delhi.

Meanwhile, the agency is also taking action on the basis of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on Coalgate, which was tabled in the Parliament.
