Centre grants Rs 110 Cr for Sunabeda Development

Bhubaneswar: The Centre has sanctioned Rs 110 crore for development of villages in Sunabeda. In a letter to the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday, Union minister for rural development Jairam Ramesh asked him to send proposals for necessary sanctions.

Rs 110 crore was sanctioned for 12 Gram Panchayats under Sunabeda Development Plan (SDP). Ramesh has granted Rs 40 crore for nine roads under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), Rs 22.5 crore for construction of 3,000 houses under Indira Awas Yojana (IAY), Rs 37.5 crore for construction of five watershed projects under Integrated Watershed Management Projects (IWMP) and Rs 10 crore for making youth self-reliant under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM).

In the letter, Ramesh cited the example of Saranda in Jharkhand where similar programmes were successfully implemented. He advised Naveen for tight security in Sunabeda to carry out the development plans effectively.

Earlier this month, Naveen had written a letter to Ramesh demanding Rs 238 crore for the development of Maoist-hit region Sunabeda in Odisha.
