After two successive defeats in Celkon Mobile Cup, Team India led by Virat Kohli and guided by injured MS Dhoni off the field, bounced back to beat West Indies by 102 runs (D/L method) and added a bonus point too to make the tournament alive. Virat scored his 14th ODI hundred to silence the critics who questioned his captaincy.
Virat Kohli took the charge after Dhawan’s departure and made 102 off just 83 balls to power India post 311/7 in 50 overs. Murali Vijay (27) and Ashwin (25*) were the other contributors. Kohli and Ashwin added 90 runs for the 7th wicket, which changed the course of the game. For West Indies, Tino Best took two wickets.
Chasing a victory target of 312, West Indies were 56/2 when rains stopped play. West Indies had to chase a revised target of 274 from 39 overs. They bowled out for 171 in 34 overs and lost the match by 102 runs. Johnson Charles (45), Kemar Roach (34) and Sunil Narine (21) were the top scorers. For India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umesh Yadav took three wickets each. Ishant Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja too took two wickets each. Kohli was declared ‘Man of the Match’.
