The AIADMK cadres as well as followers of former Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa erupted into joy and celebration, when the news broke that their beloved ‘Amma’ was granted bail by a regular bench of Karnataka High Court today. However, the news turned out to be false later, as her bail plea was rejected.
Noted jurist Ram Jethmalani fought the case for Jayalalithaa. Even the prosecution did not oppose her bail plea. Despite this, the court did not deliver the judgement in Amma’s favour.
The defence lawyer had sought immediate bail for Jaya on health grounds, as she had diabetes, low blood pressure and acute back pain. The 66-year-old Jayalalithaa, who was arrested on September 27, had to step down as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu after conviction and sentencing. At least 20 people died of heart attack or by committing suicide after she was jailed.
