TNI Bureau: In a big development tonight, which is all set to change the political scenario in Andhra Pradesh, YSR Congress President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was arrested by the CBI in the disproportionate assets case.
The arrest took place at around 7:20 PM following a three-day grilling of Jagan Mohan. The CBI said that they are not satisfied with Jagan’s replies and need further clarifications.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court had earlier rejected Jagan Mohan Reddy’s anticipatory bail application, paving the way for his arrest. The CBI had accused Jagan of enmassing wealth in a “mysterious manner” when his father YS Rajasekhara Reddy became the Chief Minister in 2004.
Jagan Mohan Reddy’s arrest came ahead of the assembly bypolls in Andhra Pradesh. 18 seats are on the stake, while Jagan’s candidates are said to have an edge over the rival Congress and TDP candidates.
The Andhra Pradesh Government has put the security forces on high alert, fearing backlash from Jagan Mohan Reddy’s supporters. Security has been beefed up in and around Hyderabad.
