Chasing 281 runs for win, Tom Latham (103*) and senior pro Ross Taylor (95) run helps New Zealand to beat India by six wickets at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday.

After opting to bat first, India rode on Virat Kohli’s 31st ODI hundred to post 280. None of the other Indian batsmen even crossed 50-run mark.

Despite the challenging conditions, Kiwis managed to overcome and won first of the three ODIs setting up the series nicely. New Zealand is now leads the three-match series 1-0.

In yet another impressive performance, India defeated Malaysia 2-1 in the final to win the Asia Cup Hockey 2017 at Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium in Dhaka on Sunday.

This is India’s first Asia Cup title in ten years, after winning it twice before in 2003 and 2007.

Manpreet Singh-led India, who remained unbeaten and dominated till the very end. While the goals from Ramandeep Singh and Lalit Upadhyay helped the team to clinch the title.

Malaysia kept up the pressure on the Indian defence in the final 10 minutes but the defence did enough to hold on.

The Indian men’s hockey team continued their winning at the ongoing Hockey Asia Cup 2017 as they defeated Pakistan 3-1 at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium in Dhaka on Sunday.

For India, Chinglesana, Ramandeep and Harmanpreet got onto the scoresheet while Ali Shaan scored the lone goal for Pakistan in the 49th minute.

Despite the result, Pakistan are in the top four along with India from Pool A in the ongoing tournament while India now stands at the top of Pool A with nine points, qualifying for the Super 4. From Pool B, South Korea and Malaysia are in the semi-finals.

India had previously defeated Japan (5-1) and hosts Bangladesh (7-0) in the run up their crucial game against the sworn foes.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced the 15-man squad for India’s ODI series against New Zealand beginning on October 22.

Shardul Thakur and Shikhar Dhawan were included in the squad while Mohammed Shami, KL Rahul and Umesh Yadav were left out.

India are scheduled to play three ODIs against New Zealand, first match in Mumbai followed by the second in Pune and third in Kanpur.

Squad: Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, Dinesh Karthik, MS Dhoni (wk), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shardul Thakur.

India’s Anupama Ramachandran has clinched the World Open Under-16 Snooker Championship Title in the girl’s category in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Anupama knocked out her compatriot and top seed Keerthana Pandian 3-1.

Earlier, she defeated Albina Leschuk of Belarus 3-0 in the semis and Alexsandra Riabinina of Russia in the quarterfinals with an identical 3-0 scoreline.

Dylan Emery of Wales has claimed the title in the boy’s category.

Total 73 cueists from across the world have participated in this championship which has hosted by the Federation of Billiards Sports of Russia for Under-16 boys and girls for the first time.

Australian fast bowler John Hastings on Friday announced his retirement from Tests, ODIs and domestic cricket.

The 31-year-old all-rounder cricketer, whose cricket career has often been hit by injuries, would now focus solely on T20s.

Hastings has picked up 42 wickets from 29 ODIs and 7 wickets from 9 T20Is.

Over a 10-year-long career, he played a total of 75 first-class matches taking 239 wickets and scoring 11 fifties to make 2,231 runs, whereas in 113 List A games, Hastings garnered 179 wickets and 1,260 runs.

In 2016, Hastings was announced as the world’s leading ODI fast bowler after picking up 29 wickets in 15 matches.

Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore on Tuesday announced the launch of National School and College Games in December and January next year to identify talent from every corner of the country and to provide platform for the young people to take up sports.

Delivering his speech at a felicitation function of the Indian football team for the U-17 World Cup in New Delhi, Rathore said the government will start the Khelo India National School Games in December 2017 and Khelo India National College Games in January 2018. These will be annual events.

Elaborating the plan Rathore further stated that the government has planned to hold these Games in a big way. 1000 children will be selected and be given Rs 5 lakh for eight years for their training and each year 1000 children more will be added.

India completed a 4-1 series win over Australia by winning the fifth and final ODI in Nagpur on Sunday and regained the No.1 ranking in ODIs.

India, chasing a target of 243 runs with the loss of only three wickets while Rohit Sharma slammed his 14th century with 11 fours and 5 sixes in his 125, which helped Indian cricket team to win over Australia by seven wickets.

Australia had posted 242/9 in 50 overs, thanks to Warner 53, Stoinis 46 and Travis Head 42. Axar Patel took 3 wickets for India.

Rohit Sharma was the Man of the Match for his knock of 125, while Hardik Pandya was announced as Man of the Series.

The Queensland player Marnus Labuschagne became the first cricketer who penalised for ‘fake fielding’ under the new International Cricket Council (ICC) rule which was implemented from September 28.

Marnus tried to fool the batsman by faking a throw during the domestic limited over match against Cricket Australia XI on Friday. Queensland Bulls were penalized 5 runs for Labuschagne’s action.

Under new rules effective from Thursday, cricket players can be ordered off the field if they commit major offences.

England’s leading cricketers, Ben Stokes and Alex Hales have been suspended by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) after the pair were involved in an altercation outside a Bristol nightclub.

Ben Stokes was taken by police in Bristol on Monday 25 September and was detained overnight on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm and fighting outside a Bristol nightclub and Hales was with him at the time of the incident.

According to the statement issued by ECB, the duo will remain present for further ECB investigation and the ongoing Police investigation into an incident in Bristol.
