Brazil slips in FIFA World Rankings

Five-time World Champions Brazil, has achieved a new low in the FIFA World Rankings, by slipping to No. 22. This is the lowest-ever ranking for the team that is going to host the next World Cup in 2014. Spain continues to lead the points table and retain the No.1 spot followed by Germany, Argentina and Croatia.

Brazil had the World Cup Soccer for the first time in 1958 after finishing runners-up in 1950. They won again in 1962 and then in 1970. Brazil won the trophy for the fourth time in 1994, but finished runners-up in 1998. They won again in 2002. In 2006 and 2010, Brazil failed to qualify for the final, signalling at the end of their hegemony in World Soccer.

Brazil is going to host the eight-nation Confederations Cup later this month, which is seen as a warm-up tournament in the run up to the World Cup. If Brazil do well there, they have a chance to improve the rankings again.
