Hosts Brzail suffered their worst-ever defeat in FIFA World Cup history without star players Thiago Silva (Skipper) and Neymar (who was injured in quarterfinals), as they lost to Germany 7-1 in the semifinals. The entire country plunged into grief and sadness following the shocking defeat.
It will be Germany’s 8th appearance in World Cup final. They qualified for the final last time in 2002, but lost to Brazil in the summit clash. The Germans dominated the proceedings right from the beginning. Thomas Mueller scored in the 11th minute, while Miroslav Klose scored the second goal in 23rd minute, followed by another by Toni Kroos a minute later. Toni scored again in the 26th minute, while Sami Khedira made it 5-0 in the 29th minute.
Brazil never recovered from that shock. Andre Schuerrle (69th and 79th) scored two more goals to make it 7-0 for his team. Midfielder Oscar scored the lone goal for Brazil minutes before the end of the game to avoid a clean sweep.Heartbroken Brazil captain David Luiz apologised to the nation.
Miroslav Klose beat Ronaldo’s record of 15 goals to become the top scorer in FIFA World Cup history. He has now 16 goals to his credit. In the second semifinal today, Argentina will take on the Netherlands.
